I've been particularly challenged by, and interested in the notion of integrating spirituality and work.  While I have thought a bit about finding a job more directly related to spiritual matters, I have decided that my current employment, that of computer consultant, can offer as much opportunity to practice the application of spiritual principles.

I've had great breakthroughs in this area in the last 4 years.  I have begun to see myself in all the folks I interact with in my work setting (and beyond), and the result has been a much more productive and authentic experience all around.  The new perspective has allowed me to take the normal ups and downs of business life much less personally.  I no longer dread going into the office, actually looking forward to it most days.

Currently, I am reading the book Conscious Business by Fred Kofman.  He offers some great techniques for acting within your own integrity and turning around tough business situations at the same time.

Fred talks about it being too bad when someone is trying to achieve a work/life balance.  This implies that working and living are opposed to one another.  The perspective he advocates is to get to a place where you see work as an enjoyable aspect of life, a meaningful part of a life lived well.

So my focus has not been to figure out some creative new way to make money which supports my spiritual identity, I have instead brought my spiritual self into the work I already had.

All this being said, I would still love to have an opportunity to do
some of the work flow, web development and database work I enjoy so much in service of an organization which is at the forefront of spiritual change.
